Judge whether you should follow up with questions about your interview results based on comments the hiring manager may have made about how quickly the company wants to fill the position. Panel interviews are difficult to coordinate, depending on the schedules and number of people who participate. If the panel members are expected to convene again to discuss the candidates' interview responses, scheduling another meeting can be equally difficult.

Holiday and vacation schedules, as well as other work obligations, can impact the availability of panel members to reach their decisions on which candidates to select. If you were interviewed by a panel, be mindful of the time it could take for a group of four to six interviewers to evaluate their perceptions and discuss the direction they want to go with candidates. A week might not be enough time within which to accomplish this task. The company could be waiting for budget or staffing approval to add a new position; the delay could be due to funding contingent on the award of a grant; or the hiring manager might be waiting to hear from the CEO to find out what candidate she thinks is the best fit.
